Online Payments Make It Easy For Your Customers To Buy

February 14th, 2011 Comments off

In the last column we discussed the process of credit card enabling your brick-and-mortar business. I pointed out that research has shown that accepting credit cards can help increase revenue and speed up cash flow. This week we will look at setting up an online payment system for your business website. If you think hooking up a brick-and-mortar location with a credit card system stymies most bankers, try asking them how to do it on your website.

The fact is most banks can provide you with the merchant account needed to accept credit card payments online, but beyond that, they have little to do with the process. Even larger banks may only have a single person on staff that is tasked as the “credit card processing expert” and if that person ever goes on vacation, you’re pretty much out of luck (voice of experience talking here, folks).

I have helped many clients set up online credit card processing systems and more than once I’ve had to sit down with the bank issuing the merchant account and educate them on how online payment systems work. Don’t believe me? This is a direct quote (here&s the Bible, here&s my hand) from the manager who was in charge of processing Internet merchant account applications at a local bank, “When someone pays online how do they swipe the credit card in their computer…”

You will need the following to accept credit cards on your website: (1) an electronic shopping cart system; (2) a payment gateway service; (3) a credit card processor; and (4) an internet merchant account issued by a bank or other financial institution or service bureau.

Here’s how online credit card processing works. (1) Your customer submits his credit card information at checkout on your website. (2) The shopping cart software sends the transaction to the gateway. (3) The gateway routes the information to the processor. (4) The processor contacts the bank that issued the customer&s credit card. (5) The issuing bank approves or declines the transaction. (6) The processor routes the result back to the gateway who then passes the result back to the website shopping cart system. The entire process is done electronically and takes seconds to complete.

We covered most of these elements last week. Here’s a quick refresher for those who missed the basics, then we&ll talk about the shopping cart system you’ll need to implement on your website.

Payment Gateway Service: The payment gateway service comes into play when a customer submits their credit card information to the webpage form. Think of the gateway service as the middleman in the process. The website&s shopping cart checkout system electronically submits the credit card to the gateway service that then routes the information to the processor for approval.

Credit Card Processor: The credit card processor is an electronic data center that processes the credit card transactions coming from the gateway company, ensures that the charge is valid, then settles the funds in your merchant account.

Internet Merchant Account: An Internet merchant account is a bank or account in which funds from online sales are deposited by the processor. Merchant accounts are usually issued by banks that are associated with the major credit card services like Visa and MasterCard. Be aware that many banks will not grant merchant accounts to Internet merchants as they are often categorized as “high risk ventures.” This policy varies widely and in the end, the granting of the merchant account will come down to economics from the bank&s point of view. If the bank sees even the smallest iota of risk, you will not be granted the account.

Fortunately, the growth of online sales has given rise to an entire industry of merchant service bureaus that will grant you a merchant account and everything else you need to accept online payments. The fees are usually higher, but it’s better than not having an online payment system at all.

Shopping Cart System. To accept online payments you must have what&s called a “shopping cart system” that allows the customer to select and purchase products from your website. A shopping cart system typically consists of three components: the product catalog, the shopping cart, and the checkout/payment system. The product catalog is the component that displays the items you have for sale on the website. The shopping cart system is the component that allows your customers to select products by clicking to “add items to cart,” and the checkout/payment system is the component that allows the customer to complete the checkout process and pay for their purchase with a credit card (or in some cases an electronic check). It is the checkout/payment component that communicates with the gateway system to complete the transaction.

Adding a shopping cart system to your website can be a simple or highly complex task, depending on the system you select. The cost of shopping cart software ranges from free (for simplistic form-based systems) to very expensive. Which shopping cart system is best for your business depends on a number of factors, including the product you’re selling, the depth of your product line, the purchase options you wish to offer customers, the inventory control functionality, and the extent of automation you desire.

There are numerous companies who can assist in the setup of your shopping cart and online credit card payment system. These companies typically charge several hundred to several thousand dollars for their services, but like anything you get what you pay for, so always use a company with good references in this area. When you’re dealing with something as important as credit card processing and cash flow, bite the bullet and get it done right the first time. The money you spend now will be returned many times in increased sales volume from credit card customers.

The most important thing to remember when setting up an online payment system is this: online it’s all about security and privacy. Though online credit card processing has been around for years there are still many people who are uncomfortable giving their credit card number online. These are the same folks who do not hesitate to give their credit card number over the phone or hand their credit card to a waiter who disappears with it for ten minutes. Online credit card processing is much less susceptible to fraud and abuse than of those scenarios

Search Engine Optimization for Dynamic Websites

February 12th, 2011 Comments off

What are “Dynamic Websites”?

Dynamic websites are websites whose pages are generated on the fly. Unlike static pages (primarily .htm/.html pages), dynamic pages are generated when an user triggers an action through that particular page.

Here is a sample dynamic URL-

http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-bin/search/results.pl?q=%22dynamic+websites%22&tab=news&go=homepage

As per the above example of www.bbc.co.uk, the dynamic part (i.e. the part) of the URL which changes as per surfer request is the part after the question mark (?)

What are the problems that search engines face in indexing Dynamic URLs?

1. Search engines often consider a dynamic URL as an infinite set of links.

2. Since dynamic URLs find maximum application in online shopping carts, there is a possibility of incorporating a session id to a particular page. As session ids of that particular page change, the search engine spider needs to index an infinite number of copies of the same page, which is a Herculean task for them.

3. Proceeding with the same logic presented in point # 2, indexing the same dynamic page might overload the servers of the search engines and therefore prevent the search engines to present with the most relevant information in the fastest possible time.

Here is what Google says about indexing of dynamic websites -

Reasons your site may not be included: Your pages are dynamically generated. We are able to index dynamically generated pages. However, because our web crawler can easily overwhelm and crash sites serving dynamic content, we limit the amount of dynamic pages we index. (Source – http://www.google.com/webmasters/)

What are the options that you have in order to make a search engine spider index your Dynamic URLs?

1. Use of softwares – Exception Digital Enterprise Solutions (http://www.xde.net) offers a software which can change the dynamic URLs to static ones. Named XQASP, it will remove the “?” in the Query String and replace it with “/”, thereby allowing the search engine spiders to index the dynamic content.

Example –
http://www.my-online-store.com/books.asp?id=1190 will change to

http://www.my-online-store.com/books/1190.

The latter being a static URL, it can easily be indexed by the search engine spiders.

2. Use of CGI/Perl scripts – One of the easiest ways to get your dynamic sites indexed by search engines is using CGI/Perl scripts. Path_Info or Script_Name is a variable in a dynamic application that contains the complete URL address (including the query string information). In order to fix this problem, you’ll need to write a script that will pull all the information before the query string and set the rest of the information equal to a variable. You can then use this variable in your URL address.

Example – http://www.my-online-store.com/books.asp?id=1190

When you are using CGI/Perl scripts, the query part of the dynamic URL is assigned a variable.
So, in the above example “?id=1190″ is assigned a variable, say “A”. The dynamuc URL http://www.my-online-store.com/coolpage.asp?id=1190
will change to http://www.my-online-store.com/books/A through CGI/Perl scripts which can easily be indexed by the search engines.

3. Re-configuring your web servers –

(i) Apache Server – Apache has a rewrite module (mod_rewrite) that enables you to turn URLs containing query strings into URLs that search engines can index. This module however, isn’t installed with Apache software by default, so you need to check with your web hosting company for installation.

(ii) ColdFusion – You’ll need to reconfigure ColdFusion on your server so that the “?” in a query string is replaced with a ‘/’ and pass the value to the URL.

4. Creation of a Static Page linked to an array of dynamic Pages –

This approach is very effective, especially if you are the owner of a small online store selling a few products online. Just create a static page linking to all your dynamic pages. Optimize this static page for search engine rankings. Include a link title for all the product categories, place appropriate “alt” tag for the product images along with product description containing highly popular keywords relevant to your business (You can conduct keyword research for your site through http://www.wordtracker.com). Submit this static page along with all the dynamic pages in various search engines, conforming to the search engine submission guidelines.

How Amazon.com, Earth’s Biggest Bookstore, coped with the issue of indexing of dynamic URLs?

A search in Google for internet marketing books, yielded a result that takes you directly to the appropriate dynamic page at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN%3D0395683297/103-0475212-8205437.

Since the above URL does not contain any query strings, all search engines can index Amazon.com’s products. Amazon.com uses this method to get its product selections indexed by search engines. This is very important for Amazon, because being an online bookstore, it is very natural for them to adopt dynamic URLs yet it was equally important for them to make their dynamic URLs search engine index friendly.

Conclusion

Even a few years back, most of the major search engines did not index dynamic URLs, thereby often preventing top search engine rankings for the online stores. With Google starting to index dynamic URLs a few months ago, the picture is going to change in the coming days. This is more so because Google’s numero uno position is currently being threatened by Microsoft’s MSN (developing its own search engine) and Yahoo! who recently acquired Overture, the biggest player in the PPC Search Engine industry.

Is The Ebay Customer Always Right?

February 11th, 2011 Comments off

I can answer this question for you right now: the answer is ‘yes’. In fact, the answer is ‘YES!’ – the biggest yes you’ve ever heard. Of the course the customer is always right. If you want to be a successful eBay seller, you should go miles out of your way to make sure every single one of your customers is 100% satisfied, however much time or money it might cost you.

A dissatisfied customer will leave negative feedback, and negative feedback is to be avoided at all costs. That one piece of negative feedback will always cost you more than it would have to deal with the complaint, whatever the value of the items you sell. You should consider any positive feedback percentage under 100% to be an absolute disaster, and a personal failure on your part.

But What If…

But nothing! There is no situation where you, as a seller, should get into any dispute with a buyer. Here are a few common situations and how to handle them.

They say the item never arrived: Politely ask the buyer to wait a few more days to see if it turns up, and then email you again if it still hasn’t arrived. If it still hasn’t arrived, you should assume it was lost in the post somehow and offer to send a replacement if you have one, or give them a full refund otherwise. No, I don’t care what that costs you. Are you serious about selling on eBay or not?

The item has been damaged in the post: You must offer to replace it or take it back for a refund without hesitation.

They say the item doesn’t match the description: Resist the urge to email back with “yes it does, you just didn’t read the description properly”. Take the item back for a refund, and edit your description if you need to, to make any confusing points extra clear.

I’m sure you’re spotting a pattern by now. Offering a refund will make almost any problem go away, and it really will cost you less in the long run. Remember, one piece of negative feedback will stay with you forever, while having a 100% positive rating is like owning a bar of solid gold.

You should always handle customers’ complaints before they complain to eBay – in fact, you should email them pre-emptively to ask if they have any. Going through the dispute process is time consuming, reflects badly on you and is downright unnecessary.

Are you still not convinced? Think this would only work with cheap items? Well, you see, the higher the price of the items you sell, the more your reputation is worth to you. Let’s say you were selling $10,000 worth of items each week, for example, and making a $1,000 profit per week overall. You might think that refunding one customer’s $1,000 purchase would be a tragedy, losing you your whole week’s profit. It’s far better to look at it this way: if you don’t give that refund, then not only will you lose the next week’s profit, but you’ll probably lose a few weeks’ profit after that too. Now which option looks better?

I absolutely can’t emphasise enough the importance of really believing that the customer is always right. But trying to make excuses for complaints isn’t the only thing you need to avoid. There are a lot of pitfalls that you need to avoid if you don’t want to kill your business before it’s even started properly – and I’ll show you in the next email what they are.

More Best Practices For Search Engine Domination

February 10th, 2011 Comments off

In Part 1 of this article detailing the five best practices for domination the search engines, we discussed website design and the use of keywords. In this part we will look at three more, one of which is related to search engine optimization and the use of HTML tags, and the other two are ways of improving your link popularity.

Meta Tags and Heading Tags

Some claim that search engines, especially Google, no longer regard meta tags as being important. In fact nobody really knows what Google thinks is important, and there is evidence that some meta tags are still used by spiders in the assessment of the relevance of your website to specific search terms or keywords used by search engine users. The meta tags that you should use on every page of your site are the description and the keyword meta tags.

Your description meta tag should provide a good description of your website, and contain your main keywords. This will likely not be seen by anybody, only the search engines, but it might be used to assess the relevance of your site in indexing with respect to specific search terms being used.

The other meta tag that search engines still use is the keyword meta tag. This should contain a list of keywords used on the page. If you don’t use it, don’t add it to the meta tag. Also, don’t use the same word too many times, since it will be regarded as keyword stuffing. After meta tags, you should look at your titles and how they are presented to search engines spiders.

Ideally, the title should be the keyword for each page. Do not use the same title for every page. It is the title of your web page that should be here, not your website. This provides search engines with an indication of the topic of your page. The title itself should be within H1 tags. This tells the search engine that these words are the most important on the page. They should also be the first text that the spiders come across on your page, since Google also gives special emphasis to the first text it finds.

Any secondary titles you might have on each page should be contained within H2 tags. These titles should also contain keywords that you are using on your page and that are contained in your keyword meta tag.

Linking Strategy

The more links you have leading back to your web pages from other websites, the more influential the search engines will calculate your web pages to be for the topics concerned. Many people use a reciprocal linking strategy, whereby two websites agree to show each other’s links. This can be self defeating, since search engines such as Google can regard a link away from your site as weakening yours, and so cancels out the benefit of the back link.

The crucial aspect of who benefits from this arrangement comes for the relative page ranking. The page rank of a web page can be found on the green bar on the Google toolbar, This is an indication of the link popularity of the page you are viewing. If you are linked with a web page with a higher page rank than yours, then you might get the benefit of the deal. However, in general terms, the more links you have back to your site the better.

If you carry out a Google search for keywords that relate to yours, you should be able to find some websites with high page ranking that are not direct competitors. Write asking for a link to your site from theirs, explaining the benefits to their customers/visitors of you doing so. One of four things will happen. They will not reply, they will refuse , they will agree or they will agree on condition that you provide a similar link back to them.

The usual reply is the first or the last, but it costs you nothing to try, and you can get a lot of good links back to your website by doing this. If the page rank is high even a reciprocal link will be of benefit to your site’s page rank and search engine listing.

Some website directories offer software on a free or a subscription basis that automatically handles reciprocal link requests. The paid versions generally set up a link directory on your website then provide you with offers of reciprocal links that you can either agree to or refuse. If you agree they can automatically add the link to your directory. With free versions you have to add the link yourself. These are very useful if you are selective.

Article Marketing

Links are much more valuable if they are one way, without you reciprocating. This is where the benefits of article marketing become huge. When you write articles and submit them to article directories, you get a one way link back from each directory your article is published on. Not only that, but if readers deem your article worthy of being copied to their website as content, then your web page also gets a link back from there. The link you get is to the page for which you provided the URL in your ‘bio’ or ‘author’s resource page’.

Although article marketing is a good way of achieving back links, they are not targeted to specific websites that could benefit you. What are really of benefit are either sites that relate to yours, from which your links could provide you with traffic focused on your niche, or high page rank sites that will provide you with high value links and that is where you have to resort to personal requests.

If you apply all of the advice provided in these recommended best practices for dominating the search engines you should give your listing a big boost, and if done properly you have a very good chance of achieving a Page One position.

Search Engines Change So Fast – Most Of What You Hear Is Wrong

February 9th, 2011 Comments off

Few things are as important to online businesses as reliable Search Engine Optimization. Get listed high on top search engines and you can just about bet on getting a big boost in sales.

Businesses often spend big bucks on SEO experts, advice, and systems that are touted to deliver your site into the promised land of high rankings. The bad news is — most of this advice is outdated, untested, or just plain wrong.

Here’s why. Search engines are extremely complicated and constantly changing. What worked last year may be completely wrong today. What worked yesterday may be outdated by this afternoon. SEO advisors who get their information from discussion groups (as many do) are often repeating untested guesses, theories, and rumors. Sometimes they misinterpret what search engine changes really mean for real websites.

Keeping up with search engines has become a full-time job, not just for one person, but for a full team of seasoned pros. It takes that many trained people to pour through the hundreds of pages of new findings, and TEST new methodologies.

I stress the word TEST because that’s really the only way you can know an optimization or marketing strategy is going to work. My team constantly tests new strategies in real life situations to see how search engines will respond.

In general, it’s good to learn how at least some of the Net’s most important search engine features (like Google’s vital PageRank system) work. You should also learn how to use meta tags and Overture to get your site listed quickly and in a way that will bring you more visitors and sales.

If you really want better ranking for your site, you are well advised to get the help of a qualified SEO professional. Choose a firm that specializes in SEO or SEM. You’ll know which ones are the most successful because THEIR sites are ranked high in search engines.

ICANN Violating Free Enterprise

February 8th, 2011 Comments off

Message to ICANN: Let those who want to create a tld, simply register it with ICANN.

If the tld is not already taken, if they have the technical capability to mange the tld, and they have the desire to market domain names on that tld, then let them do so.

It should be similar to the registering of a domain name, except on a higher level, with the added technical requirements. ICANN should be sort of an uber-registry for tlds.

It would be ludicrous for a domain name restrar like go daddy or enom to ask you for a business plan, or a non-refundable application fee, before allowing you to register a domain name. It would be ridiculous for a registrar to have “rounds” of domain name releases of names “they chose” in advance.

Okay, this month, go daddy will be allocating cheaperwebhosting.com, doggrommingmadeeasy.net, and virtualinternetwebnetwork.net. We will be taking applications and public comment during the month of february. We will then spend another month reviewing the applicants business plans to decide who we will allocate the domain name to. If you are not approved to manage the domain name you apply for, your application fee will be held by go daddy until further notice.

Some people will say that is not a good analogy, but it is a perfect analogy. Here is why. If info.com was still available and I registered it. I could then start selling subdomains like car.info.com, computer.info.com, icann.info.com or any other subdomain someone wished to purchase from me. The subdomain is one dot removed from the domain name the same as the domain name is one dot removed from the tld.

There is no longer any reason to believe ICANN is doing anything other than restricting free enterprise and free trade by not opening up the market for tlds. It is no longer acceptable that ICANN should be the one to decide which tlds will or will not be created nor is it acceptable that ICANN gets to choose who can or cannot run a tld.

Do you present a businesss plan to the city you live in before they allow you a business license? No.

Does the city ask you to prove you are financially stable before issuing you a business license? No, as long as you pay the registration fee.

If you apply for a business license to open a clothing store, does the city ask how you will run your clothing store or if you have the necessary expertise to run a clothing store? No.

Does the city think you will hurt them economically if your clothing store goes out of business? No, it’s none of their business.

Is the city concerned that there may not enough demand for yet another clothing store? No, again none of their business.

ICANN not allowing me, or anyone else in the world, to create a tld of our choice in any language we choose, is a blatant violation of our rights. In many countries, America among them, the right to free enterprise still exists. ICANN is denying me that right as an American citizen and doing so when even their own organization exists under American law.

There are no needs for auctions or rounds or anything else. If you want to run a tld, then you register it and start selling domain names. If you fail, you fail, just as in any other business venture you take on.

Artificially restricting namespace to make a few business IP interests happy has to stop.

Google PageRank Toolbar Explained

February 7th, 2011 Comments off

This article will guide you through the importance of the toolbar, and its accuracy at reporting PageRank. I will also discuss the feature about it that most people, including many SEOs are not aware of. If you have an existing site, use this as a reference to ensure that you are using the toolbar properly. I am going to review the key 5 areas.

The toolbar is not accurate, and it has limitations.
If you visit a page that is not in the index, but Google has a very similar page indexed that is very close to yours, then the toolbar will estimate its PageRank.
Also, Google represents PageRank through the toolbar, but since the nature of
PageRank is linear (a multiplier) and the toolbar is not, there are limitations.
Note: Please read “A few more words on PageRank” in my Google Best SEO
Practices – Part 4 article to find out more about this subject.

The information the toolbar displays is outdated.
There is a big difference between toolbar PageRank and actual PageRank. The data you see in the toolbar is 4 to 6 months old. Google tracks and assigns PageRank in real-time, but does not update the toolbar in the same fashion. There are multiple tools that estimate future PR, but they are just that, estimates. Keep this in mind.

Best SEO features: highlighting and backlinks.
You can highlight all instances of the search term on the page returned from your search. This helps you see how many times your competitors use these keywords on their pages, so you can adjust your SEO campaign accordingly. Also, the backlinks feature displays all the pages that link to yours, which Google counts towards your PageRank. Like I said above, remember this is outdated information.

The toolbar’s most hidden feature: indexing.
Ever wondered how can Google index pages with no links to them? Well, here is how it’s done: if you are browsing the web with the toolbar installed, (I am not saying just visible or enabled), Google is recording every page you visit and simultaneously checking to see if the address to it is in the index or not. So what if its not? It will be indexed on the next schedule. If you don’t want a page to get indexed yet, the make sure you don’t have the toolbar installed in your browser while getting it ready.

Demystifying the “pagerank dependency”.

PageRank is only one of the 100+ algo components of Google, and it is overrated.
Don’t rely solely on the toolbar to determine your link partners. You want links from related pages with high traffic, not high PageRank alone. And my final advice: Make sure you have at least 2 browsers, one with the toolbar (if you need it) and one without (to visit your “not-ready” pages).

Powerful SEO Secrets

February 7th, 2011 Comments off

If you want to rank on top for Google, Yahoo!, and other major search engines, you’ll need more than a basic knowledge of search engine optimization. Those who rank high on natural search results do so because they’ve been able to effectively manage their on-page and off-page optimization factors.

On-page Optimization
What you do on your web pages can have a positive or negative impact on your search results. However, as we’ll discuss later in this article, off-page optimization is even more powerful when it comes to increasing your natural search engine placement.

Some of the most important on-page optimization techniques begin with choosing a key word to optimize your page for. There are a number of free tools available on the Internet that can help you find a keyword that is popular but not overly competitive. Keywords that are highly competitive are often very difficult to place well for.

Once you’ve selected a keyword, you can take advantage of:

Secret #1: Don’t optimize for a single keyword, optimize for a keyword phrase.
When you optimize for a single keyword, more often than not, that word is highly competitive and your chances of coming out on top are minimal. Where you gain a significant advantage is by focusing on a keyword phrase. This actually increases your chances of ranking well and ultimately helps you towards ranking well for the single word you originally chose.

Secret #2: Place your keyword phrase within the first 25 words of text, and the last 25 words of the page. The h1 tag can be used for developing a headline on your page and emphasizing your keyword phrase within the beginning of your page text (search engines love h1 tags). Another suggestion is to use your keyword phrase just after your copyright notice on the bottom of your webpage. This ensures that it is present within the last 25 words of your page.

Secret #3: Place your keyword phrase in your page title and description. Additionally, place the keyword phrase throughout your page – being sure to bold the phrase once, italicize the phrase once, and underline the phrase once. Mention your keyword phrase every paragraph or so. Just make sure that it appears natural. If you stuff the page with your keywords, you’ll potentially turn off browsers who would otherwise find your page valuable.

Off-page Optimization
Now that you’ve learned about on-page optimization, it’s important that you focus your attention on off-page optimization. Of all the techniques that have been developed for SEO, it still comes down to the popularity of your site.

The ranking of your website in a natural search engine result list is directly correlated to the popularity of your website.

So what do I mean by popularity? Popularity is the number and quality of links to your website. Although I’ve simplified the explanation here, you should know that links essentially count as votes. If everyone is “voting” for a particular website then the website becomes popular.

Secret #4: Get other sites to link to you. There are a number of ways to improve link popularity. Although I won’t recommend a specific link building tool, I will say that there have been a number of good products developed that simplify the process. It still takes time and hard work, but over time, increasing the number of sites linking to your website can pay huge dividends.

Secret #5: Make sure that incoming links are of high quality (sites with a high Google page rank). It’s not only important to have other sites link to you, it’s also important to have quality sites link to you.

Secret #6: Anchor text must include your keyword phrase. When other sites link to you, make sure the link includes your keyword phrase. Sites that link to your domain can help with overall page rank and popularity, but websites who link to you using your keyword phrase (in the anchor text) are what get you to the top of search engine result lists.

Secret #7: Give people a reason to link to your website. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways, white papers, free content or tools, etc., but ultimately it comes down to offering something of value. If you do, other websites will give you their “vote”, increasing your link popularity and your search engine results.

Increasing your rank on major search engines isn’t complex. But it does take time and effort. If you want to increase your website ranking, begin by implementing what you’ve learned in this article and stay the course.

Top 5 ways to get Inbound Links

February 7th, 2011 Comments off

I’ve listed the methods below in the order you should use them: from the beginning (things you should do when you first start out a site) to the advanced methods, the ones you should use when your site is a little bit older and you’re already getting a fair amount of visitors.

Before we get down to business, I have to tell you this very important detail: don’t start promoting your site until it has some content – it’s unlikely that you’ll get good results when you promote an empty site!

1. Directory submissions – this is a very important step for a new site, because this is probably how search engines will first find you. What you will need:

* 5 different versions (except for the site URL) for each of the following: site URL, title, description, list of keywords.

* an email address, specially created for directory submissions. This email should be on the domain of the site you are submitting or else it will be rejected by some directories.

* a list of seo-friendly directories – http://info.vilesilencer.com/main.php?rock=seo-friendly.php has one of the best lists of seo-friendly directories.

Now here comes the hard part: take that directory list, visit each directory and submit your site cycling your titles and description on each submission. This is the hardest part mainly because of the amount of workload – don’t worry, this can be made bearable by using 2 utilities: Roboform (www.roboform.com – which you can use with Internet Explorer and Firefox that has free and paid versions) and Informenter (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/673/ – a Firefox only plugin).

2. Reciprocal links (link exchanges) – I personally don’t use this method anymore because it’s too much work and there are not enough rewards! Link exchanges used to be a very powerful method in the beggining of Google and PageRank, but not anymore. This doesn’t mean that reciprocal links don’t work anymore, it’s just that they’re not that important anymore.

However this is one step you could follow when you have little competition, somewhere in the range of 300 000 or 400 000 results for your search word or phrase.

3. Reprint rights articles (submitting articles to article directories) – this is one of my favorite methods of obtaining backlinks: it requires little time, it’s free and you can (possibly) get a lot of return on your investment!

Writing articles gives you perfect control over the enviroment your links are in, and even a little control over the site where your article resides (considering the fact that webmasters usually post only articles that have the same topic as their site). Writing articles of high quality will ensure that your articles will be posted on many sites – a good article will get you a good number of backlinks!

One last thing about article writing: never, and I mean never post the article that you’ll distribute on your own site! Considering the article could appear on very important sites, Google may apply a duplicate content filter on your site, thus possibly burring it in the SERPs. Your site should be as clean as a whistle, with as much original content as possible.

4. Buying links – in my opinion, if you are not an expert in search engine optimization you should not try buying links to improve your rankings. There are a lot of factors to take into account when looking to buy links: theme of the site, the traffic that the page or site gets, whether that traffic is from natural and sustained (not from PPC, traffic exchanges or such methods), PR, anchor text and many more!

However, if you decide on buying text links on other sites, do the following:

* choose well established sites that have the same theme as yours.
* the link should be spiderable: check the robots.txt file, nofollow metatags and the rel=”nofollow” link atribute.
* make the link look as different as possible from a bought link: surround it with text and avoid placement in the site’s footer or in an “Advertisements” or “Partners” box.

5. Link baiting is one of the most powerful method of online promotion, but this should be used only when your site is a little bit older and stable – getting a lot of links in a short time span can actually hurt your site.

There are a few hooks that you can use to attract links:

* news: get an important story first and you could be the focus of your industry sector, even if for only a few hours! People are always on the look-out for fresh stuff, and if it’s good you could end up with a lot of backlinks.

* resource: gathering a list of useful pages in your industry, or maybe offering a new viewpoint on a certain research paper.

* controversy: this kind of link baiting can actually get you on the wrong side of some people because it requires contradicting a popular point of view or an authority figure. So tread carefully!

Affiliate Tip – Create A Free Ecourse

February 7th, 2011 Comments off

Free ecourses are a win-win situation for both you and your visitors. The ecourse is a great way to capture your visitors’ email address and provide them with content that they were looking for while also offering your affiliate products repeatedly.

Your visitors will appreciate receiving the information they were looking for in their inbox every few days.

An ecourse is generally a series of 5 to 7 related articles on a particular topic that you load into your autoresponder. You will be able to incorporate one or more affiliate products in each lesson of the ecourse, while providing your reader with great information.

I like to use an ecouse to promote one particular affiliate product throughout the entire ecourse. These are usually products that pay me a decent commission per sale. They also tend to be pricier items that the customer may not want to buy on a whim from a stranger. The ecourse allows me to show my readers that I know what I am talking about and gives me a chance to gain their trust by establishing myself as an expert in the field that the ecourse covers.

Of course you can also promote several related affiliate products, in your ecourse. Each of them could provide a solution for a problem that you are addressing in your ecourse.

Determine what topic or related topics you want to cover in your ecourse. Start by writing an introduction article that gives your subscriber an idea of the overall topic and what you will be covering over the next few days. Next you launch into your actual lessons, or articles and finish your ecourse with a quick recap and some information on where they go from here. This could involve recommending additional resource books, products or sites (which will of course pay you a commission if they buy) or offering them more great information on your own website.

Once you have your content ready, load the individual lessons in your favorite autoresponder ( like aweber.com) and add a signup box to your site. Or to be even more effective, create a separate landing page for the ecourse that highlights the benefits of the course and what the reader will learn. You can get subscribers by linking from your main page to the landing page, writing articles that use the link to the ecourse sign-up page in your byline, or by purchasing ppc or other advertisements.

Watch your affiliate income grow with every ecourse you create and with every new subscriber that joins your ecourse. The beauty of creating ecourses is that you do the work once, and your ecourse will continue promoting your affiliate products for as long as you allow people to sign up. Gotta love passive income.

Sales From Your Site – Make It Simple For Prospects

February 7th, 2011 Comments off

Building a web site often can lead to interesting deviations caused by practicalities and changes in perspective. This is okay so long as you keep things simple for prospects.

Many business owners unintentionally erect barriers between themselves and their customers when it comes to the site sales process. Simple mechanisms can be put in place to remove these barriers. A business owner that is always looking for new ways to connect with potential customers often finds his or her efforts paying off many times over. Some of the most common web sales barriers are lack of contact methods, payment methods, and delivery methods. To bridge these potential barriers, a business owner can provide more options to crossing each of these barriers.

Contact Barriers

Simply adding contact options can be a great way to create more sales. Some web sites only offer email or even just a contact form as a means of contact. Yet there are many people that prefer to conduct transactions over the phone, by mail or by fax. Retail sites discover this fact the first time they go through a hot sales period such as Christmas. Some people just like to call. No, I don’t know why. They just do.

Providing a broad range of contact options also builds credibility. Having an office address, fax and phone number in addition to an email address shows the prospective client that the business does in fact exist and has made themselves transparent and easy to contact. Providing such information gives people the impression they aren’t dealing with some Nigerian scam.

Using an 800 number is also an excellent way to build credibility and remove a sales barrier. Picking up the tab on calls from potential clients is a polite gesture and may encourage a potential buyer one more reason to call. Toll-free numbers are easy to obtain these days and can cost around 6 cents per minute – a small price to pay for building confidence in your audience.

Payment Barriers

Many web sites provide only one way to pay for merchandise – credit card. There are many reasons to offer more payment methods. For one, not everyone has a credit card. Although in the United States, it seems like almost everyone does, this is not true in over-seas markets where there is resistance to credit. Furthermore, some people just don’t feel safe providing credit card information over the web. Regardless of how safe or unsafe Internet transactions may or may not be, it is usually the job of the business owner to provide what the consumer wants.

It is a simple matter to provide an address and a printable order form for most web sites where a check can be mailed. If you are running a home business, a PO box is a simple solution to keep your business separate from your home. Some mail box services allow for your address to be a suite number instead of a box number, which can further improve the image of your business.

Providing a phone number by which orders can be placed is also a way to remove a barrier between you and your potential customers. Of course this means there must also be someone there to answer the phone. Simply answering the phone can be the difference between a sale and a lost sale.

Delivery Methods

For businesses providing products, providing a variety of delivery methods is yet another way to cater to the desires of your customers and potential customers. Many people have a preference for delivery and meeting this preference could be a deciding factor when deciding whether or not to place an order. For those businesses providing services, providing a delivery pickup service for a deposit and/or contract can be a perfect sale closer.

Conclusion

By removing barriers between you and your potential customers you can increase the chances of making sales. Other options are also available, like instant messaging support, mapped out directions, video conferencing and more. Be careful to not confuse your audience with too many options. It is often a good idea to direct your audience to default options for contact, payment and delivery so as not to confuse people. Other options can be shown as small links or drop down options. By working to connect more with your audience, your sales and customer satisfaction can be increased dramatically.

Auction Fortunes Are Dependant On Ebay Software

February 7th, 2011 Comments off

Ebay software, that is tools that automate many of the steps required to sell items online, are making all the difference for the small business types who are trying to make it as professional auctioneers.

So what kinds of tools are we talking about? Well if you are at all familiar with internet marketing well then you know the jobs that most of these tools are created to accomplish. First there are simply automated tasks that ebay software or software designed specifically to interact with the ebay website. These include things like marketing research, that is finding out what kinds of things are popular and how the trends of the demand for these items is for specific times of the year. Research tools are also built to analyze the habits of people buying these products. What are the most effective descriptions of the products? What are the most profitable ways to display the products on line? What price structures should be used? What prices are most effective for certain times of the year?

After research comes building the descriptions and sales pages to put up on ebay&s auction site. Each of these sites needs to be managed during the auction as well as after the auction has ended. There is ebay software that can take care of each of these steps. As you can imagine if each of these steps were automated, the scale that you can operate on becomes much larger and therefore more profitable.

The reason that computer programs (i.e. ebay software) can do this successfully is that marketing on the internet has been reduced to a science of steps and formulas that create a situation favorable for the sale of an item. After that it is just a numbers game. All you need to get enough people who are interested in the product you are selling to see your sales page and you will make a certain percentage of the sales.

So much of the so called ebay software functions in the internet world that exists outside of ebay. There are tools that promote product pages from ebay to the major search engines. This promotion is really the bread and butter of internet marketing in general and may be the most important set of tools that a successful professional auction marketer owns. One thing that we know for sure is that the internet is here to stay and anyone who invests in the ability to make an income online will not be disappointed.

Ebay

February 7th, 2011 Comments off

If you peruse Ebay a lot, you’ll see a lot of members selling website businesses. Often advertising these as “Turnkey”, they claim that the site has been making X dollars a month for the past X months. The businesses include expired domain name searches, online auction sites, credit repair sites, dating and adult sites, etc. Take a look at the current bids or prices – $1.99? What gives? If this site is making money, why would they want to sell it??? Here are some tips to help avoid buying a waste of time.

Take a look at the domain name. Do a Google search for it. Does it show up? Keep in mind how long the seller claims the site has been in business. Go to Internic and do a Whois on the domain name…how long has it existed? Chances are less than a month.

Are there any bids on it? the number of bids is generally a good indicator on how legit this “business” is. If there’s only 25 minutes left on the auction, and there is one bid for a very low dollar amount, this one&s most likely a dog. If it is down to 25 minutes and there are 60 bids on it up to 500 bucks, it’s most likely a keeper.

Proof of income. Some sites show a screen shot of their payment processor. Visit the website. Is the payment processor the same? For example, is the screen shot on Ebay from 2Checkout, and Paypal is the only payment method on the site? Smells fishy to me.

Most of these sites claim to be “100 Percent custom hand coded by experienced developers”. Do some Googling for “website templates”. Look through some of the places that offer web templates for sale. You will most likely run across the design of the website that is for sale. View the source of the site that&s for sale – you may find that the seller forgot to remove the comment code that states that “This site was developed by ” . There are actually websites that SELL turnkey web businesses specifically for sale on Ebay, and they use these templates all the time, over and over again.

If you are still skeptical, email the seller with your questions. If this site is truly on the up-and-up, they&ll be honest. If not, they&ll dodge your questions like a bullet.

One more thing to consider: Often these sites will come with “Dirt Cheap Web Hosting”, for something like $6.99 per year. Think about it – would a TRUE e-commerce site that was getting tons of traffic and sales rely on lowest-bidder web hosting? Nope.

Now, don’t get me wrong – there ARE some good web businesses available from time to time on Ebay…but with the availability of so many free website scripts and templates, they seem to be few and far between. Caveat Emptor, my friends – let the buyer beware.

However, if you want to learn more about running a real ebay business and selling real goods and making good sales,

take a look at this site, “ebay auction software” to find some great tips

Promoting your Affiliate Programs with Articles

February 6th, 2011 Comments off

If you are not creating articles for your website and your affiliate programs, you should. Why? Even though it may seem like a lot of work, and it may take you time to build — articles add a valuable commodity to your site — content. And my friend, the search engines and people alike are always on the lookout for good content.

If you are creating articles, you are always looking to find ways to get your article out to the masses – and the more exposure your article has the greater the opportunity that people will read your article and want to visit your website. Should you submit your articles manually or should you use an article marketer submission service that will choose for you — where your article goes? Is an article submission service a good option for you when submitting articles? I hope to show you both the pros and cons of this service and let you be the judge.

Pro to Article Submission Service

Article Submission Service can be a great help when your time is limited and you want to get your articles to all the article sites and groups. However, when the service is tiered, based on what you pay and don’t pay – you have to be aware of what you are getting..

All services give you a sampling with a free service – and I did find the free service to be on the, well, expected side. After submitting to the free service of an article submission service I received the following:

1. I received several emails that stated my article had been received by a site and would be looked at. This is usual, and a good sign.
2. I received emails from the yahoo groups, which is a good sign but I didn’t partake because I knew that I would be receiving articles from other authors on a regular basis and did not want to overwhelm my private email address. Thus, be aware, use a yahoo email address and keep your private email address separate.

The article submission to the article sites such as Ezine Articles (Which, by the way, is one of my favorite sites) and Go Articles will require a small outlay of money for each article on a monthly basis. Thus, I would use a submission service if:

1. I had a separate email address to catch the other authors’ articles that I would be receiving from the yahoo groups.

2. I wanted to part with my money to take advantage of the service.

3. Needed more time.

4. I have a desire for a wider exposure of my articles and thus, more traffic to my site.

Cons of Using an Article Admission Service

When looking at anything new, you must determine when it is to your advantage to use a service or to do it yourself. These are some of the issues I would have to overcome:

1. If I do the submission myself, I know that the article or articles have reached it expected destination or destinations – but the exposure my article gets will be limited by the sites that I know.
2. If I’m restricted by General Titles will the article sites kick my article out because of not possibly abiding by the rules.
3. If I do it myself, I can target my article to the specific, intended audience.

For me, I will use the paid submission service when I am low on time and I have the money in hand. However, I will not waste my time on the free service because the return is very limited and from what I have seen offers little benefit to my site.

To conclude, you need to try different methods of getting your articles out to the masses. And the success of these different methods is dependent on your own satisfaction or lack there of, of the results rendered by such services. My advise, experiment and determine for yourself what services will help your business, who knows, that one service may be the punch in the arm your business needs to grow.

To your success.

Hosting Domain Name Options

February 5th, 2011 Comments off

Probably you have heard the term “hosting domain name” and maybe you know something about it. This term “hosting domain name” is much given emphasis by many resources that are concerned about the domain name in general, however, we cannot deny that there are still who do not know even just a tidbit about hosting domain name. So for those who haven’t known anything about hosting domain name or those who even heard a little about it, below are some of the basic principles behind the term “hosting domain name” for you to know. So read on.

Hosting domain name is actually considered as an act or a process of providing the domain name customers with space on the domain name hosts computers which are called as servers for the main reason that such servers serve the details that they hold to the internet. With the act of hosting domain name, anyone using the internet can view the site.

When we say hosting domain name, we are somewhat referring to web hosting since these two are synonymous. It is important to know that those companies who handled the act of hosting domain names also provide email to go along with the account involved in hosting domain name. As such, the domain name holder will then be granted to welcome email through their domain names.

Recently, there are a lot of companies that are concerned about the act of hosting domain names. Such companies offered products and pricing that vary widely. It is just necessary to note when it comes to hosting domain name companies that these recent companies for domain name hosting have been around for a while as these companies come and go regularly. But many of those companies have really good pricing and have been stable companies to work with.

In hosting domain names, you need to use a template, have a professional design and then code it, or you should know about html or some other codes in order to create a web site. Today, many of the domain name registrants point their Domain Name System to a company that handles the act of hosting domain names and so such hosting domain name company affixes the specified domain name to the code that the domain name user then uploaded to their web site, and this act is done typically by the File Transfer Protocol. So with the act of hosting domain name, the users on the internet can now access their server and then view the web site.

Lastly, those companies that cater to the service of hosting domain names typically offer several levels of service. It is in fact noted that those small web sites with not so much traffic don’t actually use up much space on the server and even not a lot of bandwidth because not much people are searching at the web site. So in relation to hosting domain names, it is noted that a small account of hosting domain name is thus not very expensive. The opposite situation happens to those large web sites with much traffic and bandwidth.

Understanding the Game of Search Engines.

February 4th, 2011 Comments off

When I started my e-business, I ask my web-designer friend to make a site which is really brainstorming. He did me a great favor and really made an excellent site. My site’s design is fabulous, it’s graphics are mind blowing and coding is superb. But now what? What I seen in the coming days, I am not earning a single penny because no one is visiting my site.

I think for a while that why all this is happening, then I make a search on Yahoo and see the first site which is coming on the top. It doesn’t have a good design like mine but still he is making good money. Then I came to know that the site’s design is meaningless if site’s ranking on search engines is not good.

When it comes to search engine every ear just not hears it but listens it’s every aspect and try to locate it’s presence in his site. Well why not it be done as it is the place from where all of us get our business.

Every search engine has it’s own criterion of ranking and it’s clear from the fact that when you do a search on Yahoo or Google or any other search engines there results vary. Here is the listing of some of the Top Search Engines and a few noteworthy points about all of them. Know which engines get you more bangs for the buck?

Google

Google has increased in popularity tenfold the past several years. They have gone from beta testing, to becoming the Internet’s largest index of web pages in a very short time. Their spider, affectionately named “Googlebot”, crawls the web and provides updates to Google’s index about once a month.

Google.com began as an academic search engine. Google, by far, has a very good algorithm of ranking pages returned from a result, probably one of the main reasons it has become so popular over the years. Google has several methods which determine page rank in returned searches.

Yahoo

Yahoo! is one of the oldest web directories and portals on the Internet today, and the site went live in August of 1994. Yahoo! is a 100% human edited directory, and provides secondary search results using Google.

Yahoo! is also one of the largest traffic generators around, as far as web directories and search engines go. Unfortunately, however, it is also one of the most difficult to get listed in, unless of course you pay to submit your site. Even if you pay it doesn’t guarantee you will get listed.

Either way, if you suggest a URL, it is “reviewed” by a Yahoo! editor, and if approved will appear in the next index update.

AltaVista

Many who have access to web logs may have seen a spider named ‘scooter’ accessing their pages. Scooter used to be AltaVista’s robot. However, since the Feb 2001 site update, a newer form of Scooter is now crawling the web. Whichever spider AltaVista uses, it is one of the largest search engines on the net today, next to Google.

It will usually take several months for AltaVista to index your entire site, although the past few months scooter hasn’t been deep crawling too well. Unlike Google, AltaVista will only crawl and index 1 link deep, so it takes a good amount of time to index your site depending on how large your site is.

AltaVista gets most of its results from its own index, however they do pull the top 5 results of each search from Overture (formerly Goto).

Inktomi

Inktomi’s popularity grew several years ago as they powered the secondary search database that had driven Yahoo. Since then, Yahoo as switched to using Google as their secondary search and backend database, however Inktomi is just as popular now, as they were several years ago, if not more so.

Their spiders are named “Slurp”, and different versions of Slurp crawls the web many different times throughout the month, as Inktomi powers many sites search results. There isn’t much more to Inktomi then that. Slurp puts heavy weight on Title and description tags, and will rarely deep crawl a site. Slurp usually only spider’s pages that are submitted to its index.

Inktomi provides results to a number of sites. Some of these are America Online, MSN, Hotbot, Looksmart, About, Goto, CNet, Geocities, NBCi, ICQ and many more.

Lycos

Lycos is one of the oldest search engines on the Internet today, next to Altavista and Yahoo. Their spider, named “T-Rex”, crawls the web and provides updates to the Lycos index from time to time. The FAST crawler provides results for Lycos in addition to its own database.

The Lycos crawler does not weigh META tags too heavily, instead it relies on its own ranking algorithm to rank pages returned in results. The URL, META title, text headings, and word frequency are just a few of the methods Lycos uses to rank pages. Lycos does support pages with Frame content. However, any page that isn’t at least 75 words in content is not indexed.

Excite

Excite has been around the web for many years now. Much more of a portal than just simply a search engine, Excite used to be a fairly popular search engine, until companies such as Google seemed to have dominated the search engine market. As of recently, Excite no longer accepts submissions of URL’s, and appears to no longer spider. To get into the Excite search
results, you need to be either listed with Overture or Inktomi.

Looksmart

Getting a listed with Looksmart could mean getting a good amount of traffic to your site. Looksmart’s results appear in many search engines, including AltaVista, MSN, CNN, and many others.

Looksmart has two options to submit your site. If your site is generally non-business related, you can submit your site to Zeal (Looksmart’s sister site), or if you are a business, you can pay a fee to have your site listed. Either method will get you listed in Looksmart and its partner sites if you are approved.

Once you have submitted your site, and it is approved for listing it will take up to about 7 days for your site to be listed on Looksmart and its partner sites.

AOL Search

America Online signed a multiyear pact with Google for Web search results and accompanying ad-sponsored links, ending relationships with pay-for-performance service Overture Services and Inktomi, its algorithmic search provider of nearly three years.

Ok, now you have got a better understanding of search engine’s game and finally you come to know which search engine is best for you and which one is leading in today’s Internet World. In nutshell, the thing which every e-entrepreneur wants is Top Search Engine Ranking. Isn’t it right? So take some time to register with these search engines as soon as possible and watch the traffic grow.

Changing Domain Name – The Best Way!

February 2nd, 2011 Comments off

Accept the fact that there are really some times that you need to change your domain name. Changing domain names is not in fact a very rare situation, but the fact that is widely common today. Many were now changing domain names for certain purposes, and along with that, many people were also encountering problems.

The process of changing domain names, according to some veterans in the field of domain name, is somewhat very time-consuming and the potential for some mistakes is very huge. Well, every problem has its own solution, right? So a fairly simple solution and a safe alternative for a smooth and seamless switch in changing domain names is made possible through the application of the mod_rewrite and a .htaccess file.

Now, what is a mod_rewrite and .htaccess file?

According to certain studies, a mod_rewrite as it becomes important in changing domain names is an Apache module that grants the mode for the rewriting of the URL. Many considered this tool for changing domain names as transparent to the end-user and thus require no special software on the user’s end.

In an instance of changing domain names, the user who applies the mod_rewrite in changing domain names will still see the old domain name in their browser address bar on the first page that they visit, but then will typically be seeing the content under the new domain name. By using the mod_rewrite in changing domain names will also provide you with a very user friendly search engine.

On the other hand, the .htaccess file plays a role in changing domain names as containing particular Apache directives for specific requests, including security, redirection issues, and it also contains the answers on how to handle certain errors. Such function of the .htaccess file is very necessary in changing domain names for the reason that the Apache that it contains is a very common web server that helps a smooth and easy process of changing domain names.

Knowing the facts about those two important tools, it is therefore important to note that before you do anything, you should consider some issues that surround such the domain name change. These issues must be considered for these will help for a smoother transition. So according to some experts for changing domain names, the first important move is to check the web host to make sure that they support the mod_rewrite module, otherwise the attempt procedure will not work. Then it follows that you must activate your new domain name. It is just necessary that you ensure that the file base construction and naming is accurately similar when it was under the old domain name.

After that, you create an .htaccess file. It is interesting to know that the .htaccess file in changing domain names can be done with a simple text editor like the notepad, and it should be noted that the file has no tail extension; the name should then be just .htaccess. If done, the syntax should then be inserted. Just be aware that when changing domain names, the old domain name will still appear in the browser window but you are viewing the content of the new domain name. Of course there are still some rules behind these steps for changing domain names, but unfortunately, that is beyond the scope of this article.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – Boost Your Website Traffic

January 31st, 2011 Comments off

Search engines bring more than 80 percent of the traffic for small to medium websites. This tells exactly how important it is for small and medium websites to optimize their web structure and pages for search engines. Optimization of your website for search engine includes many aspects: website content, keywords, URL, meta-tag, back links, etc. Let’s explain it one by one.

Select the right keywords. You can pay a visit to your competitors’ websites (only those with top-ranked search engine placements). Through analyzing their web contents and meta tags, you can easily find out the keywords they are using. Overture keywords selection tool can also provide you valuable information. Open your favorite browser, enter http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/, type in the search box your keywords or phrases and see how many times they were searched last month. Select those with high search frequency. Google also has a similar keyword selection tool at https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordSandbox. You can have a try of both of them and balance the search results.

Target your web site content at selected keywords. After finalizing the keywords, you can now build up your web pages with them. But, be careful, don’t overuse any keywords on your web pages. Overuse of keywords may make search engine spiders think you are spamming and get your website banned. How can I judge overuse or not? Go to http://www.gorank.com/seotools/ to have a check of your keywords density, make sure it is within a reasonable range.

Make search engine friendly URLs. Although some of the search engines can follow all dynamic URLs, like http://www.scriptmenu.com/detail.php?id=25257, some of them still prefer static URLs ended with html, htm, etc. To make search engine friendly URLs, you can create real static pages, but you don’t have to. The web server URL rewrite engine can make this job much easier by reinterpreting the URLs before getting actual pages. If you need more help or tips on how to implement URL rewrite model, follow the link http://www.scriptmenu.com/detail_24379.html and get a tutorial.

Get quality backward links to your page. Although keywords optimization of your web pages can improve significantly your search engine placement, it is still far from sufficient to get your pages top ranked. You have to get some quality backward links to your websites. You need at least 35 quality back links to make google going to your web site and take a look at you. You can get these quality links by submitting your site to high-ranked web site directories or by writing some quality articles and then submitting them to the high-ranked online article archives. Many other ways exist, but remember, only backward links from quality web sites count. Websites poorly indexed or with very low search engine ranking have no value to you.

Keep on improving your website. By keyword optimization, URL optimization and quality backward URLs, your website should have gotten remarkable search engine placement. However, the placement is not static, you competitors are optimizing their websites and trying to kick you out of your current position. To maintain a good search engine ranking, you have to keep on improving your website. Keep on optimizing your website navigation, content and structure. Keep on getting more quality links from top-rated sites…. The battle for top search engine positions will never end. Good luck, :-)

Things I Love About Google

January 30th, 2011 Comments off

The word Google is on the lips of young and old. Ask anyone a question and if they don’t know pat will come the answer “ask Google.” Among the many search engines in the World Wide Web, Google stands apart. Its unique, exciting, innovative, and a pioneer.
Like adventurers of yesteryears that sailed the un-chartered seas, Google sails the cyber universe in search of adventure.

Easy to use, Google is a free service with a mission to offer at a click the world’s information. A clever use of the mathematical term Googol, 1 followed by a 100 zeros, it just means infinite information presented in an organized way.

Google is not any ordinary set up its philosophy and commitment to cost containment just means that every employee in any part of the world is a multi-tasker and hands on contributor. Work and play are both inborn in Google staff that enjoy their work and are obsessive about creating search perfection. So, employees from all over the world, speaking dozens of languages, originating from widely differing yet colorful cultures have one thing in common “Google is their life and breathe of fresh air.”

It is simplicity and faith in its staff that has enabled Google to better the best. Every one thinks on the go and before a blink of an eye innovations are introduced –be it a spell checker or Google Number Search to facilitate use of Google from WAP phones. The keys to success lie in information has no end just beginnings, fast is better than slow, the motto is to provide instantaneous answers to surfer queries. The secret to the success is to focus on user needs and keep things simple. And do not stray from the “path.” The key is to concentrate on “search.”

What makes great business sense is the motto “do no evil.” This serves to reemphasize the business ideals and philosophies. In fact one thing people love about Google is that it stands by its beliefs. Google was unique in refusing to give in to a subpoena and submit search query records. On the other hand, Google has the sense to adapt to different needs, in China Google took a step in a different direction and started self-censoring human rights organizations.

Google has strayed into everyone’s hearts and become a part of everyday life. Gmail, Gtalk, blogs, news, Google maps, and more. Whatever a person needs or dreams about becomes a reality and what more it is at no cost to users. Googlers are friendly, helpful, spirited, and inspired. They evoke admiration among internet browsers. Its not just service Google has extremely good business sense.

Usability is their aim and simplicity their secret password. Anything complex is not evident to the user. Google realizes that to be ahead even non techies, young and old must be able to use the search engine and different services. They should not be confounded by complexities. No frontier is too far and no problem too great. If a problem exists Google will make all attempts to solve it.

Smart, devoted, and dedicated are three words that can aptly describe Googlers world wide.
